Bio
Katia Dermott is a lens based artist and writer. She received her BFA in photography from Maine College of Art & Design. Through photographing the personal, she explores land as family and body as place. Her work investigates what cannot be seen, focusing on environment, family, and self. Dermott has exhibited nationally at venues including the Institute of Contemporary Art in Portland, Maine; the Maine Museum of Photographic Arts; and A Space Gallery in Brooklyn, New York. Her work has been featured in publications including the Maine Magazine, One Twelve, and the Too Tired Project. Twice she has received the Irving B. Ellis and Judy Ellis Glickman Endowed Scholar Award. Dermott’s work has been collected by the Bates College Museum of Art. She lives and works in Rockland, Maine.
